When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That’s the message he is sending. – Thich Nhat Hanh (via lucifelle)

Whenever I say something witty

Simon

In life i have met my fair share of strange characters.

Alot.

Whenever I’m sitting around drinking my mind always wanders back to Simon.

Simon the Assassin.

Now, I won’t go into details as to why we ran into a guy like this, but lets just say alcohol was involved. Simon told us about his line of work and his preferred methods and he seemed to put a great emphasis on the need to 1) know their routes so that he could 2) attack from behind. He said he never attacked from the front. When i asked him why, he took his time with his answer. He stared into his drink for a long time and finally spoke:

“In my line of work, I’ve learned to tell alot about a person by his face. I mean, I’m no cold blooded monster. The most basic trait we all have is empathy. Its how we connect with others. If we lose that, then we become, well cold blooded monsters.”

“When i look into someones eyes i see their past. I see their present. I see where they are headed, their aspirations, their insecurities, their love…their hate. Its beautiful. Who am i to snuff that out? Who am i to play god? So that’s why….I always attack from behind.”

When I pressed for more, all he would do is mumble that he was no monster.

That conversation always resonated with me.

Simon the assassin. Simon. Clearly an alias. I wonder what he’s up to now?

Probably killing someone as I sit and ponder this.

Oh well, we made eye contact a good number of times that night.
